Punjab has announced an extension of the tenure of school teaching interns, allowing the programme to continue with revised terms.
The government has approved the continuation of already appointed School Teaching Interns from Phase One and Phase Two. The new internship period will run from September 16 to May 31, 2027.
Officials have directed that STI teachers whose terms end on May 31, 2026, should receive fresh contracts. The government has also approved an additional monthly allowance of Rs15,000 for the interns, subject to the revised terms and conditions.
STIs whose contracts have not been terminated will be allowed to continue their internship. However, those who resign or leave their posts before May 31, 2026, will not be eligible for the extension.
The Punjab government has also instructed all district education authorities to issue new contracts to the interns.
