PMDC Issues Advisory for Pakistani Medical Students

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has advised Pakistani students against enrolling in medical colleges in Afghanistan, warning that graduates from those institutions cannot obtain registration to practice medicine in Pakistan.

The PMDC said graduates from Afghan medical institutions cannot register with the council and cannot practice medicine in Pakistan.

The council said the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) does not recognize medical institutions in Afghanistan. Therefore, the PMDC will not allow graduates from those institutions to appear in Pakistan’s National Registration Examination (NRE).

The PMDC urged students to verify an institution’s ECFMG recognition before applying for admission to any medical college in Afghanistan.

The council advised prospective students to carefully check the recognition status of foreign medical institutions before making admission decisions to avoid future academic and professional difficulties.
