Pakistan’s ODI Tri-Series With Zimbabwe and Ireland Likely to Be Scrapped
Pakistan’s planned tri-nation ODI series with Zimbabwe and Ireland next year is likely to be scrapped after Zimbabwe became unable to travel to Pakistan.
According to Cricinfo, Zimbabwe’s participation in the Pakistan-hosted series has fallen through due to commercial reasons.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) are now working on an alternate window.
The tri-series could instead be reduced to a bilateral series between Pakistan and Ireland. A one-off Test had also been under consideration, although the possibility of that match has now receded.
“The PCB and Cricket Ireland are currently working through a revised schedule for the tour, and details will be made available shortly,” a Cricket Ireland spokesperson told Cricinfo.
The tri-series was part of Pakistan’s preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia next year.
Pakistan is also scheduled to play a home ODI tri-series next month against Sri Lanka and England. The PCB is also working to arrange a five-match bilateral series against Bangladesh, while another five-match series in England next summer has already been confirmed.
Ireland, meanwhile, is scheduled to compete in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in February next year as it looks to secure a place in the tournament.
The schedule for the qualifiers is set to be announced on October 1, and a series against Pakistan would also help Ireland prepare for the event.
