Pakistan Among Worst Hit by Climate Change
Pakistan is among the countries most affected by climate change, with floods, landslides, smog and other disasters putting pressure on its limited economic resources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on October 8.
In a message marking the 21st National Day of Resilience, Sharif paid tribute to the victims of the October 8, 2005, earthquake and recalled the courage, compassion and sacrifice shown by Pakistanis in the aftermath of the disaster.
He said Pakistan continued to face natural disasters, including floods, earthquakes, landslides, epidemics and smog, despite its limited resources. The country had repeatedly demonstrated resilience and remained committed to improving disaster preparedness, he added.

The government is working to strengthen coordination among provincial governments, public institutions, the private sector and civil society to improve responses to natural disasters.
Sharif also praised the efforts of disaster management agencies, rescue services and the armed forces in responding to emergencies, saying the public’s solidarity and support remained an important part of the country’s national character.
The government is using the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to incorporate modern technologies into disaster response systems, including more effective early warning systems supported by reliable data and analysis.
