More than 11 People’s Bus Service buses operating on Karachi’s Tower-to-Gulshan-e-Hadeed route have broken down after developing engine faults.
The breakdowns were reportedly caused by diesel mixed with water, which was supplied by a private contractor from his own fuel station. Several other buses have also been taken off routes due to similar engine problems.
The affected buses have been moved to the relevant depot for repairs, reducing the number of vehicles available for daily operations.
The shortage has left commuters facing longer waiting times, with some passengers waiting for up to an hour in intense heat and humidity.
Passengers have called for the buses to be repaired and returned to service as soon as possible. They have also demanded strict legal action against the contractor responsible for supplying the substandard diesel.
