At least 1,060 people have suffered snake bites across Punjab between January and August this year, with six of them dying, according to Rescue 1122.
The emergency service’s report covering the period from January 1 to August 31, 2026, showed that 614 men and 446 women were among those bitten by snakes.
Wildlife Department officials said snake bite incidents often increase during the rainy season. Water accumulates in low lying areas and settlements during the rains, forcing snakes to leave their usual hiding places in search of dry and safer locations.
As a result, snakes often enter populated areas, increasing the risk of encounters with residents.
The Wildlife Department urged citizens to remain cautious during the rainy season and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from snake bites.
