OpenAI Reportedly Seeks $30 Billion at $1.4 Trillion Valuation
OpenAI is reportedly in talks with investors to raise at least $30 billion in a new funding round that would value the company at around $1.4 trillion, according to Bloomberg.
The discussions are still at an early stage, and the terms could change. The proposed valuation reportedly excludes the fresh capital that would be raised in the round.
Bridge Funding Ahead of IPO
The new investment is expected to serve as a bridge round ahead of OpenAI’s eventual IPO, after the company pushed back plans for a public listing.
CEO Sam Altman has ruled out an IPO in 2026, saying the company wants to address safety concerns around increasingly capable AI systems before going public.
OpenAI previously raised $122 billion in March 2026 at a post-money valuation of $852 billion, according to the company.
Revenue Growth Accelerates
OpenAI’s business has also expanded rapidly.
Bloomberg reported in August that its annualized revenue run rate had surpassed $40 billion, roughly double its level at the end of 2025, driven partly by growth in coding products, subscriptions and advertising.
More recent figures suggest growth has accelerated further. Reuters reported on September 29 that OpenAI’s annualized recurring revenue was approaching $70 billion, with enterprise sales more than doubling since July and overall annualized revenue rising more than 70% since the start of the third quarter.
That makes the earlier $40 billion figure cited in reports from August already outdated.
OpenAI’s Valuation Keeps Rising
If completed at the reported terms, the round would represent a sharp increase from OpenAI’s $852 billion valuation in March and place the company among the world’s most highly valued private technology companies.
Bloomberg reported that investors remain interested in increasing their exposure to OpenAI ahead of an eventual public offering.
OpenAI has not publicly confirmed the proposed funding round or its terms.
