NCCIA Yet to Return Mohammad Rizwan’s Phone After Questioning
Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan’s mobile phone remains with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) following brief questioning at its Lahore office, according to sources.
Rizwan reportedly waited nearly two hours before the session began. Sources described the atmosphere as cordial, with questions focused mainly on his phone use. Officials told him the device had been sent for forensic examination.
His questions were not answered immediately, although officials indicated responses would follow. He could also be summoned again if required.
In his third letter confirming his October 2 appearance, Rizwan sought clarification about the allegations. He said the first notice mentioned online betting and gambling, while court proceedings referred to an electronic fraud provision under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.
He asked which provisions applied and whether the PCB, ICC Anti-Corruption Unit, or another cricketing body had been contacted.
Rizwan said he surrendered his phone and password during his initial appearance in England, and it was examined again in his presence. He maintained that he received no seizure receipt, warrant, custody record, or written explanation for its continued retention.
He requested prompt completion of the forensic examination and return of the device, while pledging cooperation with any lawful investigation.
The second summons reportedly concerned alleged dressing-room leaks during the England series. It required attendance at 3pm on October 2 and warned that nonappearance would be treated as having nothing to present in his defense.
