The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has registered two separate cases against 206 suspects, including 12 foreign nationals, following raids on illegal call centres allegedly involved in organised online fraud in the federal capital.
The cases stated that the suspects approached potential victims through online dating applications, established regular communication, and gradually gained their trust. The victims were then encouraged to participate in online tasks and invest money through purported online platforms with promises of financial returns.
According to one of the cases, a call centre operating in Sector G-10 was allegedly conducting unlawful cyber activities under the guise of a legitimate information technology business. A large number of women were also found among those allegedly working at the facility.
The call centres were also allegedly involved in fraudulent activities conducted in the name of loan recovery, online trading and investment. Investigators said the suspects used their IT-business cover to conceal operations aimed at obtaining money from victims through deception.
The NCCIA seized computers, electronic devices and other digital material allegedly linked to the fraudulent activities. The suspects have been booked under Section 14 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, read with Sections 419, 420, 34 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code, while further investigation is underway.
