Minister Admits Compensation Delay for Sectors E-12 and C-16

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has acknowledged delays in compensation for some people affected by development work in Islamabad’s E-12 and C-16 sectors, saying the interior minister would hear the concerns of those affected.

Speaking during a National Assembly session on Thursday, Chaudhry responded to a calling-attention notice concerning the demolition of houses and cemeteries without compensation.

He said several sectors had been allotted over the years without being developed, adding that a separate member had been appointed in the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to oversee sector development and allotment.

Chaudhry said possession had been handed over for 90 per cent of plots in E-12, while C-16 was initiated in 2008 and most of its development and allotment had been completed.

He said three laws had been amended over the past 20 years, and claimed that C-16 had around 1,000 houses when it was taken over, but more than 3,000 had since been built, allegedly to claim compensation.

Addressing concerns over cemeteries, the minister said Islamabad faced significant challenges involving burial grounds, stating that E-12 had eight cemeteries and that all graves had been protected.

Chaudhry also alleged that 150 illegal housing schemes had sold land designated for schools and parks.
