Meta Launches New AI App That Lets You Raise a Virtual Pet

Meta has introduced a new AI-powered app called Waddle World, allowing users to raise a virtual pet, interact with it, and share details about their daily lives.

The app is similar to the classic Tamagotchi virtual pet games but adds artificial intelligence to make interactions more personal.

Waddle World is currently available for iOS and Android users in the Philippines. Meta has not announced when it will launch in other countries.

How Waddle World Works

Waddle World features a 16-bit pixel-style environment where users can hatch and raise their own virtual pets.

Players can feed their pets, play games with them, and interact with them throughout the day.

Unlike traditional virtual pet games, Waddle World uses AI to learn about users through their interactions. The app also allows users to share their thoughts and experiences by speaking or typing.

The virtual pet listens and turns these conversations into journal entries written from its own perspective, complete with small illustrations.

Additionally, users can play short mini-games and receive weekly emails summarizing what their virtual pet has learned about them.

No Daily Tasks or Rewards to Maintain

Meta says Waddle World is designed to be a relaxing experience rather than an app that pressures users to return every day.

Unlike many mobile games, it does not require players to maintain daily login streaks or chase high scores.

Users can spend a few minutes or longer with their pets without worrying about losing progress.

Meta also describes Waddle World as a virtual pet experience rather than a traditional AI chatbot, assistant, or productivity tool.

The app is intended for adults aged 18 and older.

Meta Continues Testing New AI Apps

Waddle World is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to explore new uses for artificial intelligence beyond traditional chatbots.

The company has previously introduced Pocket, which allows users to create games using AI, and Vibes, an app for generating AI videos.

Meta has also been developing a Tamagotchi-style physical device powered by its Muse AI technology.

The new virtual pet app could be an early experiment related to that project, although Meta has not confirmed a connection.

Availability

Waddle World is currently available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the Philippines.

Social media consultant Matt Navarra highlighted the app on October 27, drawing attention to Meta’s latest AI experiment.

For now, it remains unclear whether Meta plans to release Waddle World worldwide.

The launch also comes as AI companion services face increasing scrutiny. Companies including Character.AI and OpenAI have faced lawsuits alleging that their products harmed teenagers.

Meta has not said whether those concerns influenced Waddle World’s design or its adults-only availability.
