Matric Student’s Marks Jump From Zero to 72 After Court-Ordered Review
A class 9 matric student initially awarded zero marks in Biology by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar received 72 marks after his answer sheet was examined on the Peshawar High Court’s directions, according to his lawyer.
Abdul Aziz’s father, advocate Arif Khan, approached the court through Advocate Amin Yousafzai after the family’s request for rechecking failed to resolve the complaint.
Yousafzai said board officials initially maintained that the original result was correct and that the marks would not change. However, the board awarded Aziz 72 marks after examining the paper following the court’s intervention.
The lawyer questioned the reliability of the board’s complaint-handling process and raised concerns about students who lack the resources or awareness to seek judicial relief.
He also said the family had been reluctant to publicize the case, fearing possible unfair treatment in the student’s tenth-grade examination.
Educationist and lecturer Shah Nawaz Khan called for stronger internal checks to identify marking, tabulation and result-compilation errors before results are announced. He said a change from zero to 72 marks warranted a serious review of examination and rechecking procedures.
