Mari Energies Strikes Gas Sale Deal for Spinwam Discovery in KP
Mari Energies Limited has awarded a contract to Universal Gas Distribution Company (Pvt.) Ltd for the purchase of natural gas from its Spinwam gas discovery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, marking a key step towards the commercial development of the field.
In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company said it had issued a Letter of Award to Universal Gas Distribution following the successful completion of a competitive bidding process initiated through an invitation published on May 15, 2026. The agreement covers the sale of up to 17.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas from the Spinwam discovery in the Waziristan Block.
Mari Energies said the parties will now seek the necessary regulatory and other approvals required under the government’s Framework for Sale of Gas to Third Parties, notified through S.R.O. 11(I)/2025.
The company is the operator of the Waziristan Block with a 55% working interest, while Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) holds 35% and Orient Petroleum Inc. owns the remaining 10% stake in the joint venture.
Mari Energies announced the initial gas and condensate discovery at the Spinwam-1 exploratory well in the Waziristan Block in February 2025, followed by three additional discoveries from the Kawagarh, Hangu and Lockhart formations over the following months, confirming the well’s multi-zone production potential.
Production under the Extended Well Testing (EWT) phase commenced in April 2026, with the field initially producing around 40 MMscfd of gas and 200 barrels of condensate per day, helping lift total output from the Shewa and Spinwam fields to about 100 MMscfd.
