Main Accused in Multan Orphan Murder Case Killed in CCD Encounter
The prime suspect in the murder of a teenage orphan in Multan has been killed in an alleged encounter with Punjab’s Crime Control Department (CCD) near Bahawalpur.
The suspect, identified as Tauqeer Niaz, was wanted in connection with the killing of 15-year-old Waseem Abbas. The teenager was allegedly chased and deliberately run over by a car in Multan.
According to police, Tauqeer was the main accused in the case. CCTV footage of the incident had also emerged, reportedly showing the vehicle pursuing the teenager before hitting him.
Tauqeer was subsequently arrested and remained in police custody on physical remand as investigators proceeded with the murder case.
However, authorities later reported that he had escaped from custody. The CCD later encountered Tauqeer near the Northern Bypass in Bahawalpur.
According to CCD District Officer Irfan Akbar, officers signaled two men travelling on a motorcycle to stop. Instead, the suspects allegedly attempted to escape and opened fire on the CCD team.
Police said officers returned fire during the exchange. Tauqeer was subsequently found critically wounded.
According to the CCD’s account, Tauqeer was hit by bullets fired by his own accomplice during the shootout. His companion managed to escape from the scene.
Tauqeer later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have launched efforts to trace and arrest the second suspect who allegedly escaped following the encounter.
The development comes after the killing of Waseem Abbas sparked widespread attention. The 15-year-old was an orphan and had reportedly been working when the incident occurred.
Police had earlier arrested Tauqeer after identifying him as the principal suspect in the case.
