Lahore City Traffic Police has announced a general crackdown across the city today and tomorrow against underage driving, driving without a license, riding without a helmet, and one-way traffic violations.
According to CTO Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, underage drivers will be issued tickets and their vehicles or motorcycles will also be impounded. However, motorcycles belonging to underage riders will be released if a valid juvenile permit is presented.
The CTO said motorists violating one-way traffic rules will initially receive challans, while repeat offenders will face criminal cases.
He added that special action will also be taken against motorcycles carrying three riders, particularly on weekends when children often take motorcycles, cars, and rickshaws onto the roads.
The traffic police clarified that driving on a learner’s permit is not allowed. Drivers caught without a license will face a Rs. 5,000 fine, while unlicensed motorcycle riders will be fined Rs. 2,000 and have their vehicles impounded.
Special checkpoints will also be established outside licensing offices, where motorcycle riders will be facilitated in obtaining driving licenses.
The CTO has directed circle officers to ensure the crackdown is carried out under their supervision.
