The Lahore Traffic Police has announced a comprehensive traffic management plan for the 983rd annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh Ali Hajveri (RA), with special arrangements in place for the three day religious event.
According to the traffic advisory, SSP City Zone Maqsood Loon will supervise the traffic operation. The plan includes the deployment of five DSPs, 111 traffic inspectors, and 900 traffic wardens. Authorities have also deployed 15 forklifts and four breakdown vehicles to remove wrongly parked vehicles and keep traffic flowing.
Parking Arrangements
The Traffic Police has designated five parking stands for visitors attending the Urs. Milk supply vehicles, handcarts, and rickshaws will be allowed to reach the Sabeels via Azadi Flyover and Peer Makki.
Roads Closed
For security reasons, Kachehri Chowk, Bhati Chowk, and the road from Peer Makki to Data Darbar will remain closed to all types of traffic.
Traffic Diversions
Under the traffic plan:
- Traffic coming from Shahdara towards Lower Mall will be diverted from Azadi Chowk towards Railway Station.
- Another diversion for traffic from Shahdara to Lower Mall will be via Niazi Shaheed Chowk, Bund Road, and Saggian.
- Traffic travelling from Chauburji Chowk towards Lower Mall and Data Sahib will be diverted from MAO College to alternate routes.
- Vehicles approaching from the Inner Circular Road will be able to reach their destinations via Mori Gate, Urdu Bazaar, and Kachehri Road.
- No traffic will be allowed to enter Lower Mall from District Courts Chowk, the corner of the DIG Operations Office, or the R/O Gate of Government College University.
- Traffic from Retigan Chowk, Bilal Ganj Chowk, Beri wala Chowk, and Mori Gate will not be allowed to proceed towards Data Darbar.
- Similarly, no traffic from Taxali Chowk, Mori Gate, or Azadi Chowk will be permitted to enter Lower Mall Road.
- Motorists travelling from Shahdara to Upper Mall have been advised to use the route via Railway Station and Press Club.
The Lahore Traffic Police said motorists can receive live traffic updates through Rasta FM and the Rasta App. Citizens can also contact the Punjab Police Helpline 15 for traffic assistance and guidance during the Urs celebrations.
