The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has directed all education boards to begin the process of de-affiliating private high and higher secondary schools that are not registered with the Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PSRA).
The Elementary and Secondary Education Department issued the directive on the instructions of Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi, who serves as the controlling authority of all Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in the province.
According to an official notification, education boards must first issue notices to unregistered schools, giving them three months to obtain mandatory PSRA registration. If a school fails to register within the deadline, the relevant board will withdraw its affiliation in accordance with the law.
The department also instructed all boards to submit compliance reports after the notice period, identifying schools that completed registration and those that lost their affiliation.
Education Secretary Mohammad Khalid said the government would take legal action against schools operating without PSRA registration. He added that de-affiliation would remain in place until the schools completed the registration process.
According to PSRA Managing Director Javed Iqbal, 387 private high and higher secondary schools across the province remain unregistered despite holding affiliations with education boards. He said 196 schools are affiliated with the Peshawar Board, followed by 100 with Swat, 47 with Mardan, 15 with Abbottabad, 12 with Bannu, 10 with Malakand, and four with Dera Ismail Khan.
