The federal government is close to finalizing the incentives and land lease model for the Karachi Industrial Park as it moves to accelerate industrial investment and attract export oriented businesses.
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema chaired a meeting on Thursday to review the development of the industrial park, with the proposed land lease model and incentive framework nearing finalization ahead of the planned early launch.
Cheema said the government was committed to speeding up development of the Karachi Industrial Park and making industrial units operational as soon as possible.
He stressed that the framework should prioritize export oriented industries, with land allocation and incentives linked to clearly defined export commitments. This, he said, would help ensure that the project contributes to export growth.
Officials reviewed different development and investment models, including a proposed land lease package offering competitive incentives to attract industrial investment while linking land allocation and concessions to export commitments.
Cheema said the development of the Karachi Industrial Park should support broader economic goals, particularly higher exports, industrialization and productive use of available land.
Officials also briefed the minister on proposals to prioritize industrial units with strong export potential, particularly businesses expected to export more than 50 percent of their production. The proposed framework will focus on facilitating industries whose output is predominantly export oriented, according to the briefing.
