Karachi Green Line Extension Completion Timeline Revealed
Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has said the extension of Karachi’s BRT Green Line from Numaish Chowrangi to Municipal Park near Jama Cloth Market will be completed during the fiscal year 2026-27, with the federal government having already released its share of funding.
During a surprise visit to the construction site on Saturday, Hashmi called for accelerating work so residents could benefit from the project as soon as possible.
He said authorities were building stations along the 1.8-kilometer route between Numaish Chowrangi and Municipal Park. He added that the federal government had released its allocated funds for the extension.
Hashmi described the Green Line as a major transport project that had significantly improved public transportation for Karachi residents. He said former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had initiated the project during his tenure as part of his vision for a modern mass transit system for the city.
The governor stressed that Karachi still needed major transport projects and better commuting facilities. He noted that the 18th Constitutional Amendment had limited the federal government’s direct role in certain development projects but assured residents that the center would continue supporting the city’s development.
