Iranian Woman Gets Death Penalty for Blasphemous Social Media Post

A 23-year-old Iranian accounting student has reportedly been sentenced to death over a social media post deemed insulting to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), according to human rights activists.

Najmeh Amini received the sentence in September after spending approximately eight months in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad. Activists said she was convicted of “sab ol-nabi,” or insulting the Prophet.

She also reportedly received a separate prison sentence of 12 years, six months, and one day on charges involving national security and anti-government propaganda.

Amini was arrested on January 31 after participating in anti-government protests. Earlier reports linked her detention to allegations of insulting Iran’s supreme leader and confronting security personnel.

In an audio recording attributed to her and dated September 18, Amini appealed for legal assistance and international attention.

“I only want justice and the opportunity to defend myself,” she said, asking lawyers and human rights organizations to examine her case.

Iran Human Rights Monitor called for urgent intervention to halt and overturn the sentence, alleging that she had been denied access to legal counsel and faced a risk of torture.

The supplied account does not include an Iranian judicial response or clarify whether the death sentence has been appealed.
