HP Launches $740 Ultra-Thin Intel-Powered Laptop With Nearly 43 Hours of Battery Life
HP has introduced the Star Book Air 14 in China, featuring a 14-inch OLED touchscreen, Intel Core 5 320 processor, and a battery that the company claims can last up to 42.5 hours.
The laptop features a lightweight aluminum body and comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It is available for reservation at a starting price of approximately $740.
HP also sells the same model internationally under the OmniBook 5 14 name, starting at $699.99.
Design and Display
The HP Star Book Air 14 features a 14-inch OLED touchscreen with a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels and support for 10-point touch input.
The display carries TÜV hardware low blue light and HP Eye Ease certifications, which are designed to reduce eye strain during extended use.
The laptop uses an aluminum alloy chassis measuring just 11.77mm thick and weighing 1.16kg.
It features HP’s slash logo on the lid and a 180-degree hinge that allows the screen to lie flat on a surface.
HP offers the laptop in four colors: Starry Blue, Ash Silver, Peony Pink, and Cantaloupe Green.
Hardware and Performance
The Star Book Air 14 is powered by Intel’s Core 5 320 processor, which belongs to the company’s newer Wildcat Lake family.
The processor is paired with 16GB of memory and a 512GB solid-state drive (SSD).
Intel’s Core 5 320 is also appearing in other laptops, including Lenovo’s IdeaPad Slim 5i. A recent Geekbench listing also revealed the processor in the upcoming Redmi Book 16 2027 with 16GB of RAM.
Battery Life and Connectivity
The HP Star Book Air 14 comes with a 60Wh battery, which HP claims can deliver up to 42.5 hours of usage on a single charge.
However, actual battery performance will depend on the user’s workload and usage conditions. For connectivity, the laptop includes two full-featured USB-C ports and an HDMI 2.1 output.
It also features a Full HD infrared camera with dual microphones for video calls and supports Windows Hello facial recognition.
The laptop includes speakers tuned by Poly, while its audio system carries DTS Ultra certification.
Price and Availability
The HP Star Book Air 14 is available for reservation in China at a starting price of approximately $740.
The same laptop is sold internationally as the HP OmniBook 5 14, with prices starting at $699.99.
This makes the Chinese model approximately $40 more expensive than its international counterpart, based on the reported prices.
