Honor has launched the Life S3, a compact e-book reader designed to magnetically attach to the back of a smartphone.
Unlike most magnetic phone displays that act as camera preview screens, the Life S3 is built specifically for reading books and documents.
Display and Design
The Honor Life S3 features a 3.68-inch e-ink touchscreen with a pixel density of 259ppi.
It measures just 5.6mm thick and weighs 61g, making it small enough to sit on the back of most phones without adding too much bulk.
The reader attaches magnetically. For phones or cases without built-in magnets, Honor includes a magnetic ring in the box along with a screen protector and charging cable.
There is a function button on the left and a power button on the right, while page turning is handled through the touchscreen.
The display does not have a front light, meaning users need external lighting when reading in darker environments.
Storage and File Support
Books can be transferred wirelessly using Wi-Fi and Honor’s Smart Space app.
The Life S3 supports EPUB, MOBI, TXT, DOC, DOCX, and PDF files.
It also includes a microSD card slot supporting cards up to 1TB, allowing users to carry a large offline library.
Battery and Price
The device packs a 650mAh battery, which Honor claims can provide up to 30 hours of continuous reading.
Charging is handled through USB-C, with no support mentioned for reverse wireless charging from the attached phone.
The Honor Life S3 is currently available in China for CNY 360, which is approximately $54.
Honor has not announced international availability yet.
