Govt Targets 125,000 Home Loans This Year

The government has set a target to provide Rs. 700 billion in housing loans for 125,000 residential units this year under the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar scheme.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting to review lending for housing, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and agriculture.

Officials briefed the meeting on measures to expand housing finance, improve access to SME financing and support agricultural lending.

The government said it is working to make financing easier for SMEs, including access to modern technology and funding needed to compete in international markets.

The meeting was also briefed on joint risk-sharing arrangements for lending, supply chain financing and improved data sharing between relevant institutions.

Digital systems are being expanded to allow consumers to apply for small loans without visiting bank branches.

The government will also activate an SME portal by the end of November to facilitate access to financing for small and medium enterprises.

The meeting was told that NBP’s housing finance approval rate of 76 percent was a positive development.
