Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a French appeals court after being convicted of aggravated rape in a case dating back to 2016.
The 41-year-old singer received the sentence on Saturday from an appeals court in Créteil, southeast of Paris. The ruling increased the six-year prison term handed to him by a Paris court in 2023.
The court also ordered Lamjarred to be taken into custody immediately following the verdict. French prosecutors had requested an eight-year prison sentence during the appeal.
The case dates back to October 2016. Lamjarred met a woman identified in reports as Laura P. at a nightclub in Paris before the two later went to a hotel room. She was 20 at the time, while Lamjarred was 31. The court found him guilty of raping her there.
French prosecutors said Lamjarred was convicted of aggravated rape, with his intoxication at the time cited as an aggravating circumstance. Lamjarred has consistently denied the allegation and maintained his innocence.
His lawyer, Marie Burguburu, said the defense plans to challenge the ruling before France’s Court of Cassation. The appeal proceedings were held behind closed doors.
The appeal had initially been scheduled earlier but was postponed to allow additional investigation into the case.
Lamjarred is one of Morocco’s most prominent singers and has built a large following across the Arab world, with several of his songs attracting hundreds of millions of views online.
He is also involved in a separate case in France. In May 2026, a court sentenced him to five years in prison in connection with another rape case involving allegations from 2018 near Saint-Tropez. Lamjarred has appealed that conviction as well.
