The National CERT (NCERT) has warned citizens about a number of fake websites pretending to belong to major Pakistani government and public sector institutions.
The National CERT’s Threat Intelligence Centre found several active websites being used to impersonate institutions including NADRA, FBR and HEC, with the apparent aim of stealing users’ login details and other sensitive information.
The monitoring system identified a suspicious website, secure-login-nadra.com, as a malicious domain targeting NADRA users for credential theft on October 4. Similar fake websites were also detected while impersonating the Federal Board of Revenue and Higher Education Commission.
The threat was not limited to these institutions. National CERT also detected phishing websites using the names of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Federal Investigation Agency, Directorate General Immigration & Passports, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, Benazir Income Support Programme and Prime Minister’s Youth Programme.
The identified websites were classified as active threats, with threat scores ranging from 87 to 99 percent on the National CERT monitoring platform.
Another suspicious website, secure-login-punjabsafecities.com, was found impersonating Punjab Safe Cities and targeting users for credential theft.
The monitoring platform showed that the suspicious domains were still active. The listed websites were registered through NameCheap Inc., indicating that the campaign is using the names of trusted public institutions to make fake websites appear legitimate.
National CERT is continuing to monitor phishing and impersonation attempts targeting organizations in Pakistan and abroad.
Citizens have been advised to be particularly careful when clicking links or opening login pages claiming to belong to government institutions.
Users should verify websites before entering passwords, account details or other sensitive information and avoid providing credentials on suspicious or unverified platforms.
