Xiaomi has launched a new accessory for the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max that makes use of their rear displays.
Called the Xiaomi Pocket Guitar, the magnetic accessory comes in black and red and attaches to the back of the phone. When folded, it sits over the secondary display.
When opened, the accessory splits into two sections connected by a hinge. One side has chord buttons, while the other features a textured panel with raised ridges that act as strings.
Users can also fold it in the opposite direction and use it as a small phone stand.
How It Works
The Pocket Guitar works through Changba, a Chinese karaoke and singing app. It connects to the phone over Bluetooth and supports two performance modes.
In Chord mode, users press numbered chord buttons marked I to VII with one hand while strumming the textured panel with the other.
Rhythm mode is simpler and does not require users to select the correct chords. They only need to keep the strumming in time while the app handles the chords.
Rear Display Integration
The Xiaomi 18 Pro series’ rear display plays an important role in the setup.
The strumming area sits below the screen, allowing users to view controls and other information without covering the display while playing.
The rear-screen features are limited to the Xiaomi 18 Pro series. The Pocket Guitar can also connect to other Xiaomi phones and iPhones running iOS 14 or later through Changba, but rear-screen performance and recording features are unavailable.
On those devices, users must handle song browsing, tuning, and playing through the main display.
The accessory includes a 630mAh battery, which Xiaomi says can provide up to 30 days of use on a single charge. It charges through USB Type-C and connects through Bluetooth.
The Xiaomi Pocket Guitar is priced at 599 yuan, or around $90.
