Sindh Sets Deadline to Make Upgraded Schools Fully Operational

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the School Education Department to make newly upgraded schools fully operational by April 2, 2027, while ordering a province-wide enrollment drive to bring out-of-school children back to classrooms.

He issued the directives during a review meeting on the Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project (SSEIP) at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi. The SSEIP and SELECT programs cover 1,133 schools across Sindh, including 838 under SSEIP and 295 under SELECT.

Officials expect to complete 552 schools by December 2026 and 801 by March 2027, while the overall program has a completion target of December 2027. Murad Shah directed officials to ensure that schools scheduled for completion by March 2027 have furniture, teachers and other essential facilities in place by April 2.

The chief minister also ordered the Education Department to expand an enrollment campaign launched as a pilot in five upgraded secondary schools in Thatta. The nine-day campaign enrolled 702 students in Classes VI to X, including 409 girls, while 102 out-of-school or dropout children returned to education.

Community teams visited 116 feeder schools, 17 neighborhoods and 23 villages and conducted door-to-door outreach. Murad Shah directed officials to expand the campaign across Sindh, particularly targeting girls and children who have dropped out. He also ordered officials to finalize a transparent framework for managing upgraded schools.
