Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced plans to provide free electric scooters to 50,000 women across the province.
Speaking at a ceremony in Mirpurkhas for the distribution of pink electric scooters, Memon said the Sindh government would continue expanding the initiative to improve women’s mobility and access to transportation.
The government is distributing the scooters to women who complete the required training and pass their driving tests. Memon said the program would eventually reach eligible women in every district of Sindh.
He said the government was distributing the scooters without political or other discrimination and had linked eligibility to driving skills. Memon also announced that the government would launch pink taxis for women as part of measures to improve mobility and support women’s participation in economic and social activities.
He said the number of women obtaining driving licenses had increased significantly as more families now allow women to ride motorcycles. Memon warned that the scooters issued under the program remain exclusively for women and said authorities would take action if men use them.
