RedMagic 12 Pro Launches Globally With Higher Prices and Less RAM
RedMagic has officially launched the RedMagic 12 Pro in international markets, following the introduction of the RedMagic 12 Pro+ in China in mid-October.
The global model retains the RGB-lit liquid cooling system, Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, 185Hz OLED display, and 8,400mAh battery of its Chinese counterpart.
However, it supports slower 80W wired charging instead of the Chinese version’s 120W. Prices start at $949 in North America.
Design and Display
The RedMagic 12 Pro features a 6.85-inch BOE X11 OLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 185Hz refresh rate, which the company claims is an industry first.
The screen has 0.96mm bezels, reaches 1,900 nits of global peak brightness and 5,000 nits of local peak brightness, and supports up to 5,000Hz instantaneous touch sampling.
Its full-screen design hides the selfie camera beneath the display. The phone also includes a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
Despite its larger battery, the handset measures 8.5mm thick, compared with 8.9mm for its predecessor.
The phone carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance, while the cooling fan area has a separate IPX8 rating.
RedMagic offers two colors: Nightfreeze (transparent black) and Subzero (transparent silver).
Internals and Software
The phone runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, supported by the RedCore R5 gaming processor and G1 display chip.
It offers up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
Its AquaCore Cooling System 3.0 combines RGB-lit dual-loop liquid cooling, a 25,500 RPM fan, Liquid Metal 4.0, and a vapor chamber with a 15% larger effective cooling area.
The upgraded micro-pump produces up to 130kPa of pressure, an 85% increase over its predecessor, while consuming as little as 20mW.
Other gaming features include 520Hz shoulder triggers, compared with 700Hz on the Chinese model, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and an X-axis linear motor.
The phone also supports Wi-Fi 7, NFC, an infrared blaster, and USB 3.2 Gen 2.
It runs RedMagic OS 12 based on Android 17, with Gemini integration, PC game emulation, and Steam access through the X-Gravity gaming center.
Cameras
The RedMagic 12 Pro features two rear cameras, including a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 50MP ultrawide camera.
On the front, it has a ninth-generation 16MP under-display selfie camera developed with BOE.
Battery and Pricing
The RedMagic 12 Pro packs an 8,400mAh battery, which is 12% larger than the 7,500mAh battery in the RedMagic 11 Pro.
The global version supports 80W wired charging instead of the Chinese model’s 120W. It also includes wireless charging and bypass charging.
The Nightfreeze variant costs $949 for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, $1,049 for 16GB/512GB, and $1,199 for 16GB/1TB.
The Subzero version is available for $1,049 with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage or $1,199 with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.
Compared with its predecessor, the new model is more expensive, while the highest-end configuration now offers 16GB of RAM instead of 24GB.
