Punjab to Withdraw 20kg Flour Bags From Market
The Punjab government has decided to withdraw 20kg flour bags from the market and introduce 10kg packs across the province as part of measures concerning food prices and wheat management.
The decision came during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, attended by commissioners and deputy commissioners from across Punjab. Officials reviewed food prices, wheat cultivation targets, and agricultural and administrative matters.
Maryam also ordered strict monitoring of interprovincial borders to prevent wheat and flour smuggling. She directed all deputy commissioners to ensure their districts meet wheat sowing targets.
During the meeting, officials reported that prices of 15 essential food items, including vegetables, pulses, and other commodities, had remained stable. Prices of another 10 items were declining, with some recording reductions of up to 252%, according to the briefing.
The meeting also decided to upgrade the Qeemat App to improve price monitoring and maintain stability. Ahead of Ramadan, the chief minister directed officials to take advance measures to provide bananas, apples, and dates at controlled prices.
