Punjab to Introduce Online Registration for Christian Marriages

Punjab has moved forward with reforms to Christian personal laws, including a proposal to introduce an online registration system for Christian marriages.

The decision was discussed during the second meeting of a high-level technical committee formed on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to review reforms related to Christian personal laws.

The meeting was chaired by Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora.

The committee reached a consensus on proposed amendments to the Christian Marriage Act and agreed to present the Christian Marriage Amendment Act before the Punjab Assembly.

Under the proposed reforms, Christian marriages will be registered through an online system to improve transparency and ensure greater accuracy in official marriage records.

During the meeting, the committee also reviewed the adoption of Christian personal laws and amendments proposed by the sub-committee. The relevant department briefed the participants, while Dr. Noel Khokhar also gave a presentation.

The committee further decided to provide religious education and examination facilities to prisoners belonging to minority communities.

Certified teachers will be nominated to provide religious education to minority prisoners, while a separate committee has been formed to oversee the education and examination process as well as the nomination of certified teachers.
