Punjab to Build Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital by June 2029
The Punjab government has approved the establishment of the Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan at a cost of more than Rs8.7 billion.
Official documents show that the project is scheduled for completion by June 30, 2029.
The project includes a capital component of more than Rs3.12 billion and a revenue component of over Rs5.58 billion.
The new hospital will provide modern cancer treatment facilities to patients in Dera Ghazi Khan and nearby areas, reducing the need to travel to other cities for specialised care.
According to the provincial health department, Punjab plans to further expand cancer care services after setting up the facility in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Secretary Health Azmat Mahmood said work is also under way on the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research in Lahore.
The project reflects the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen specialised healthcare infrastructure and improve access to cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Health Department has decided to introduce a transparent, merit-based system for house jobs and postgraduate training for foreign medical graduates.
For this purpose, the department has formed a nine-member committee comprising vice-chancellors of medical universities in Punjab and principals of medical colleges.
The committee will review the existing process for house jobs and postgraduate training, with a focus on merit, transparency and uniformity.
It will also examine the verification of medical degrees, registration, licences and eligibility criteria for foreign medical graduates.
