Punjab is considering a proposal to recruit 1,600 headmasters for government schools on a fixed monthly salary of Rs. 150,000.
Following teacher intern recruitment, authorities are now exploring a similar approach to filling vacant school leadership positions. However, the recruitment plan, salaries and contract terms remain under consideration and await approval.
Under the proposed framework, candidates would take an examination conducted by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). Those who pass would then undergo interviews before securing appointments at different schools.
In the first phase, selected school heads would receive two-year contracts. Authorities could extend these contracts based on their performance.
According to sources, more than 2,000 government schools across Punjab currently have vacant headship positions. The proposed recruitment would fill 1,600 of these posts.
Authorities will seek formal approval from the cabinet committee before starting the hiring process.
The plan is not yet final. Recruitment, monthly pay and contract arrangements will depend on approval from the relevant authorities.
