Punjab Private Schools Face Action Over Winter Timing Violations

Around 40% of private schools in Rawalpindi district are reportedly violating the winter timings set by the Punjab School Education Department (PSED), despite repeated warnings from officials.

The Punjab government has fixed school opening time at 8:45 a.m. and closing time at 1:30 p.m. However, many private schools continue to open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 2 p.m., disregarding the official notification.

The government introduced the revised schedule to protect students from cold temperatures during early morning hours as winter approaches. Children are increasingly experiencing seasonal illnesses, including flu, colds, runny noses and persistent coughing.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took notice of the violations and directed the department to ensure strict implementation of the revised timings. She also ordered action against schools that fail to comply.

According to available figures, around 60% of schools are following the new schedule, while others continue to disregard the instructions. Parents have urged authorities to ensure full compliance.

Department officials confirmed that several private schools were still violating the prescribed timings. They said the department would now begin registering FIRs against institutions that fail to follow the official notification.
