The Punjab Traffic Police has ordered a province-wide crackdown on pressure horns and excessive honking, with a strict ban on the use of pressure horns taking effect across Punjab.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic has directed all Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Traffic Officers (DTOs) to take indiscriminate action against motorists found using pressure horns.
Traffic authorities have also been instructed to act against unnecessary honking near hospitals, educational institutions, emergency centers, and restricted zones. Motorists who continuously or repeatedly use their horns will also face action under the law.
Commercial vehicle owners have been told to immediately remove pressure horns from their vehicles or face legal action.
According to official data, more than 383,000 people have been fined across Punjab this year for using pressure horns and continuous honking. Lahore Traffic Police alone has issued challans to 48,000 people over the improper use of horns.
Authorities said pressure horns and continuous honking can harm human hearing and neurological health. The ongoing crackdown has also helped reduce noise pollution, according to the traffic authorities.
The DIG Traffic has directed officials to ensure effective enforcement to protect citizens from unnecessary noise and noise pollution while taking action against violators without discrimination.
Citizens have also been urged to cooperate with the traffic police in reducing noise pollution. Authorities said safe driving requires roads that are safe, peaceful, and environmentally friendly.
