Punjab has introduced a stricter procedure for obtaining a driving license, with applicants now required to complete key testing and payment steps within specified deadlines.
Under the new rules, which came into effect on September 17, 2026, applicants who pass the e-Sign test must appear for the road test within 24 hours. If they fail to take the road test within this period, the e-Sign test result will expire and the entire process will have to be started again.
Applicants who pass both the e-Sign and road tests must also generate a Payment Slip ID (PSID) within the same 24-hour period. Failure to generate the PSID on time will result in the cancellation of both test results.
After generating the PSID, applicants will have seven days to pay the required fee. If the payment is not made within this period, the application process will be canceled.
In cases where the PSID expires, applicants will be required to retake both the e-Sign and road tests, which must again be completed within 24 hours.
The Punjab Traffic Police center where the road test is conducted will be responsible for submitting the regular driving license application.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, Punjab, has directed traffic officials across all districts to strictly implement the revised procedure.
