PMDC Announces New Titles for Doctors Under Training
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has introduced new titles for doctors undergoing postgraduate medical training across the country.
Under the new directive, doctors currently referred to as “Postgraduate Trainees” will instead be designated as “Specialty Registrars.”
The PMDC has issued a letter to government hospitals and medical institutions across Pakistan, directing them to adopt the new designation for doctors undergoing postgraduate training.
According to the council, the change is aimed at ensuring greater professional recognition and dignity for doctors in training. The PMDC said the term “Postgraduate Trainee” can create a perception that such doctors hold a lower professional status.
The council believes using the title “Specialty Registrar” will better reflect the doctors’ professional role and help maintain their dignity within hospitals and medical institutions.
The directive applies to government hospitals and medical institutions across the country, which have been asked to implement the new designation.
The change comes as postgraduate doctors continue to play an important role in providing patient care while completing specialized medical training in various fields.
