Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the authorities to prepare a comprehensive gas load management plan for the upcoming winter season and take all necessary steps well in advance.
The directive was issued during a meeting on winter energy planning in Islamabad on Tuesday, according to the 24NewsHD TV channel.
The prime minister also ordered an extensive public awareness campaign to support the implementation of the gas load management strategy.
He called for all necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted gas imports in view of the prevailing regional situation.
The meeting was informed that domestic consumers will be given priority in the supply of locally produced gas, while RLNG will be prioritised for power generation and industries.
Officials said a public awareness campaign will also be launched to encourage households to adopt alternative energy sources instead of relying only on locally supplied gas.
Measures are also being taken to ensure uninterrupted transmission of gas from reserves located in the northern areas of the country.
The meeting was told that a proposal to introduce bank financing facilities for electric appliances used for water and space heating is also under consideration
