PM Directs Ministries to Complete Digitization Within Deadlines
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed all federal ministries to complete data digitization within set deadlines and provide the information to a central national digital platform under the Digital Nation Pakistan program.
Chairing a review meeting on Thursday, Sharif said a central national data center would help improve government services, make public facilities more accessible and support economic development by integrating data from government institutions and different sectors.
He said digitizing ministry performance and related records could also help reduce corruption and institutional disorder. Data sharing among government institutions had played an important role in implementing the fuel subsidy scheme for deserving citizens, demonstrating the benefits of coordinated databases.
The prime minister praised the Ministry of National Health Services for working with provincial governments to compile universal medical records. He also welcomed the introduction of QR codes to help verify the quality of medicines supplied across the country.
According to a briefing, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication is coordinating with other ministries on sector specific digitization, with health and agriculture among the priority areas. The IT ministry is also working with the Ministry of Law to make relevant national laws available on a single platform to support public access and future legislation.
Officials told the meeting that work was continuing on three key objectives: digital government services, a digital economy and digital public facilitation. Federal ministries also briefed the meeting on their public services, performance and progress in providing data to the central data center.
Sharif directed ministries to complete digitization in coordination with provincial governments and other relevant institutions within the prescribed timeframe.
The meeting was attended by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, IT Minister Shaza Fatima and officials from relevant government institutions.
