PIA Reveals When Karachi to London Flights Will Start
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has increased its operational fleet to 17 or 18 aircraft following privatization, with two Boeing 787 Dreamliners joining its fleet and two more relatively newer aircraft expected in January 2027.
A PIA general manager informed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Privatization that one Boeing 787 Dreamliner had already arrived in Pakistan, while the second was initially scheduled to arrive on December 15, 2026.
He said the airline had also arranged two additional aircraft, aged around seven to eight years, which would join the fleet in January 2027. The official said PIA was working to restore grounded aircraft as engines and other necessary equipment became available from international suppliers.
At the time of privatization, the airline had 15 operational aircraft and 16 grounded planes. The number of grounded aircraft has since dropped to 14. Secretary Privatization Usman Bajwa told the committee that passenger feedback on PIA’s UK flights had been encouraging, particularly regarding flight schedules and food quality.
He also announced that PIA would launch direct flights from Karachi to London in March 2027 as part of its route expansion plans. The committee also discussed PIA’s comparatively higher ticket prices. Responding to concerns, the general manager acknowledged that the airline’s fares were sometimes Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3,000 higher than those of competing airlines.
