Peshawar to Get Flower Belts, Dancing Fountains and More Green Spaces

The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has been directed to prepare a comprehensive beautification plan for the provincial capital, featuring flower belts along major roads, dancing fountains in public parks, and expanded green spaces.

Adviser on Local Government, Communications and Works Asif Rafiq issued the directives during a detailed briefing on ongoing development projects and future plans.

Under the proposed initiative, flower belts will be established along major roads, from the motorway to different entry points of Peshawar, and at prominent locations across the city to transform Peshawar into a city of flowers.

Rafiq instructed officials to select attractive flowers and plants suitable for the local climate to improve the appearance of major roads, entry points, and public spaces.

He also proposed installing dancing fountains in public parks and emphasized that tree planting, flower beds, and park improvements should be key parts of the plan to strengthen the city’s identity and visual appeal.

PDA officials informed the adviser that a broader beautification plan was being developed to renovate different areas, expand greenery, improve the urban environment, and upgrade civic facilities.

The briefing also covered other development projects, including a proposed 1,000-bed hospital on 150 kanals near the Peshawar Motorway and a four-story building at Lady Reading Hospital. The latter’s PC-I has been approved, while its PC-II has been forwarded to the Health Department.

Officials also presented a master plan for the Southern Expressway and the approximately 45-kilometer Outer Peshawar Ring Road.

Meanwhile, Rafiq directed the PDA to make the missing Ring Road link starting from Warsak Road operational within 90 days to help reduce traffic congestion and ease commuting difficulties.

He stressed that urban development projects must prioritize public needs, smoother traffic flow, environmental improvements, and better civic facilities.
