The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) plans to install 65,000 Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters under its Electricity Distribution Efficiency Improvement Project (EDEIP), according to project documents.
The smart-meter installation is part of a broader distribution network upgrade covering PESCO’s Peshawar and Khyber circles. The project is being funded through foreign financing.
Under the revised PC-I, the installation of 5-20kW AMI meters has been allocated Rs. 1.82 billion, including a foreign cost of $6.5 million.
The project also includes the installation of aerial bundled cable (ABC) on 60 feeders, covering around 1,298 kilometers across the two circles. The component has a revised cost of Rs. 3.415 billion, including Rs. 683.043 million in local costs and Rs. 2.732 billion in foreign costs.
Another Rs. 2.67 billion has been allocated for technical assistance, including equipment for metering and testing, transformer workshops, protection and testing facilities, personal protective equipment, information technology and vehicles.
The project also sets aside Rs. 126 million for training and capacity building and Rs. 560 million for implementation support.
The overall EDEIP has a revised cost of Rs. 30.256 billion, equivalent to $108.056 million, with Rs. 8.988 billion in local costs and Rs. 21.268 billion in foreign costs.
The smart meters, upgraded cabling and supporting infrastructure form part of PESCO’s broader effort to improve the efficiency of its electricity distribution network.
