Pakistan’s Rising Star Joins Elite Company After Historic ODI Performance
Pakistan’s emerging all-rounder Arafat Minhas has joined Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq in an exclusive list of Pakistani cricketers to score a half-century and claim a five-wicket haul in the same ODI.
The 21-year-old achieved the feat during Pakistan’s second match of the home tri-series against England, helping the hosts secure an impressive 87-run victory.
Playing only his fifth ODI since making his debut against Australia in May this year, Minhas delivered a match-winning performance with both bat and ball.
Coming in to bat with Pakistan struggling at 133/5 after 27.3 overs, the left-hander struck nine boundaries in his 58-ball 59. His contribution, along with Hasan Nawaz’s aggressive 79, helped Pakistan recover and post a competitive 302/9 in 50 overs.
Minhas continued his impressive performance with the ball, taking six wickets for just 40 runs in 8.4 overs as England were bowled out 87 runs short of the target.
The performance made Minhas only the third Pakistani to achieve the rare ODI double, following former all-rounders Afridi and Razzaq.
Afridi was the first Pakistani to reach the milestone, scoring 61 runs and taking 5/40 against England in Lahore in 2000. He also remains the only cricketer in the world to accomplish the feat three times in ODI cricket.
