Pakistan’s 2 Star Hockey Players Set to Feature in Foreign Leagues
Pakistan hockey captain Abu Bakar Mahmood and national team player Ahmad Nadeem are set to represent clubs in Australia and France, respectively.
Abu Bakar will feature for Melbourne Cobras in Australia’s Hockey One League, where he is expected to play seven matches from mid-October.
The Melbourne Cobras are making their debut in the league this season after becoming its eighth franchise.
Abu Bakar, a defender and drag-flick specialist, has represented Pakistan at both junior and senior levels. He made his international debut with the U21 team in 2014 before joining the senior side in 2017.
He was appointed Pakistan captain ahead of the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup and also led the national team at the Asian Games in Japan.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Nadeem is set to travel to France to represent Hockey Club de Nantes, where he will play six matches over the next one and a half months.
Nadeem is familiar with French club hockey, having previously played for Douai and Lambersart before joining Nantes in 2025.
He returned to Nantes in March 2026 following international commitments and was joined by Pakistan defender Sufyan Khan.
The forward has also represented Pakistan in major international competitions, including the FIH Pro League, Asian Champions Trophy and the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup.
Speaking about his experience in French hockey in an earlier interview, Nadeem said playing alongside athletes from different countries had helped him develop his game and gain a better understanding of European hockey.
Both players will continue their club careers overseas while remaining part of Pakistan’s national hockey setup.
