Pakistan will make knowledge sharing a key part of its CAREC agenda when it assumes the regional grouping’s chairmanship in 2027, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said in Mongolia.
Speaking at the Governing Council meeting of the CAREC Institute in Ulaanbaatar, Ahsan Iqbal said the next phase of regional cooperation should focus not only on roads, railways, energy links and trade corridors but also on sharing knowledge and expertise.
He proposed creating a regional knowledge platform and expert directory where CAREC countries could share data, policy tools, project evaluations and practical experiences.
The minister said this would allow policymakers to learn from what has worked in other countries and adapt those approaches to their own challenges.
Ahsan Iqbal also proposed a CAREC peer exchange facility to connect officials dealing with similar issues. The proposed areas include trade facilitation, digital customs, logistics, renewable energy, disaster response, agriculture and skills development.
He called for stronger cooperation on coordinated border management, digital trade systems and shared climate-risk information, saying regional challenges require regional responses.
Pakistan is preparing to assume the CAREC Chairmanship in 2027. Ahsan Iqbal said Pakistan would work with CAREC member countries, the CAREC Institute and the Asian Development Bank on economic corridors, trade facilitation, digital connectivity and climate resilience.
He offered Pakistan’s Pakistan Single Window as an example for regional peer exchange and said Pakistani universities and research institutions would also be encouraged to participate in the CAREC knowledge network.
“The first twenty-five years of CAREC showed what we can build together. The next twenty-five should show what we can learn together,” Ahsan Iqbal said.
The minister added that the CAREC Institute should evolve into a regional hub that collects, tests and shares knowledge and helps member countries turn that knowledge into practical policy solutions.
