Pakistan to Buy Winter LNG Cargoes Worth $100 Million Each
Pakistan has started procuring liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the winter season, seeking two shipments for December 2026 and January 2027 as demand for heating is expected to increase and spot prices approach their highest level since 2022.
Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL), a government-owned company responsible for procuring LNG to meet the country’s gas requirements, has invited bids from international suppliers for two cargoes. Each shipment is estimated to cost around $100 million at current market prices.
Pakistan Seeks LNG Shipments for December and January
According to the tender notice, PLL is seeking two LNG cargoes on a Delivered Ex-Ship (DES) basis at Port Qasim in Karachi. The first shipment is scheduled for delivery between December 14 and 16, 2026, while the second is expected between January 9 and 11, 2027.
Each cargo will have a quantity of 140,000 cubic meters, with a tolerance of plus or minus 5 percent. The procurement is listed under tender number PLL/IMP/LNGT80, with bids invited from reputed international suppliers.
Winter Demand Adds to LNG Procurement Pressure
The procurement comes as Pakistan prepares for higher gas consumption during the winter months, when household heating demand typically increases. With spot LNG prices nearing their highest levels since 2022, securing the two shipments could involve an estimated expenditure of around $200 million in total.
The cost of the shipments will ultimately depend on the prices offered by suppliers and the terms of the procurement. The tender notice sets out the required quantities and delivery windows but does not disclose the final purchase price.
