Pakistan T20 World Cup Hosting Dates Confirmed as ICC Revises Schedule

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the dates for the 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup in Pakistan as part of an updated schedule for major international cricket events between 2027 and 2031.

According to the revised calendar shared with member boards, Pakistan will host the 12-team Women’s T20 World Cup from September 7 to October 1, 2028.

The tournament will be followed by the Men’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand from October 12 to November 12, 2028. The 20-team competition will begin just 11 days after the women’s tournament concludes.

The updated schedule was shared following the ICC’s meetings in Dubai earlier this month. It covers 12 men’s, seven women’s, and five Under-19 events, including qualifying tournaments.

The ICC has also moved the men’s and women’s qualifying tournaments for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics from 2027 to January and February 2028.

Cricket will return to the Olympics for the first time since 1900, with the United States eligible for direct qualification in both competitions, subject to ICC ranking requirements.

Both American teams must have been ranked among the top 15 in their respective T20I rankings at some point between June 30 and December 31, 2026.

The USA men’s team, currently ranked 13th, is on track to qualify directly. However, the women’s team, ranked 19th, could miss out if it fails to meet the requirement.

If the USA women’s team does not qualify automatically, the available spot will be decided based on the standings at the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy in India in February 2027.

Australia, India, South Africa, and Great Britain have already secured places in the women’s Olympic tournament. Meanwhile, the highest-ranked eligible men’s teams from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania will qualify directly based on the December 31, 2026, rankings.

Both Olympic qualifying tournaments will feature eight teams, although their venues have not yet been announced.

The ICC has also confirmed that the 2029 World Test Championship (WTC) final will take place in England from June 8 to 12.

Additionally, the 2030 Men’s T20 World Cup, to be jointly hosted by England, Ireland, and Scotland, has been moved from June to July and August.

Further details regarding tournament venues and qualification arrangements will be announced later.
