Pakistan IT Exports Hit 9-Month High

Pakistan’s IT exports rose 19 percent year-on-year (YoY) to $435 million in September 2026, reaching a nine-month high and supporting growth in the country’s services exports, which increased by more than $505 million during the first quarter of fiscal year 2027.

According to State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data, total services exports reached $2.719 billion in July-September FY27, up from $2.214 billion in the same period last year, representing growth of over 22%.

IT exports increased 10 percent month-on-month (MoM) in September, partly due to a higher number of working days, according to Topline Securities.

For the first quarter, IT exports stood at around $1.25 billion. On a trailing 12-month basis, they reached $4.8 billion, up 20 percent from $4 billion a year earlier.

Net IT exports, calculated by subtracting imports from exports, rose 10 percent YoY to $364 million in September.

IT services and freelancers remained major contributors to services export earnings, accounting for more than 45 percent of the total during the first quarter. Their combined receipts reached around $1.246 billion, up approximately $187 million, or 17 percent YoY.

September’s IT export receipts were the second-highest monthly inflows on record at the time, following $437 million in December 2025.

The government has set a target of $10 billion in annual IT exports by FY29 under its Uraan Pakistan national economic plan. Achieving this goal would require a compound annual growth rate of 27.8 percent, making faster and sustained growth essential over the coming years.

Industry experts have called for efforts to expand into emerging markets and address shortages of skilled workers. Monthly IT export receipts would also need to rise above the current level, potentially reaching $450 million to $500 million, to support stronger growth.

Beyond IT, other business services generated $622 million in the first quarter. These included research and development, professional and management consulting, legal and accounting services, public relations, advertising, and other technical services.

Transport services contributed $295 million, while travel services generated $322 million. Government services, including consular and military services, brought in around $152 million during July-September FY27.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s goods exports rose 7.6 percent YoY to $8.454 billion in the first quarter, compared with $7.853 billion in the same period last year. The increase was around $601 million, slightly higher than the rise recorded in services exports.
