Pakistan-IMF Review Talks to Conclude This Week for 5th Loan Tranche

Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are expected to conclude review talks this week for the release of the fifth tranche under the ongoing loan program, sources told ProPakistani.

IMF mission has expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far during technical-level discussions.

Pakistan’s economic team has also assured the Fund that a new National Finance Commission (NFC) Award will be finalized by December 2026.

Sources told ProPakistani that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has assured the IMF that it will achieve the tax collection target for the current fiscal year. The IMF mission has also expressed satisfaction with FBR’s revenue performance during the July-September quarter.

The IMF mission has stressed continued reforms and measures in the energy sector. During the technical-level talks, the mission reportedly expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of the power sector.

However, the IMF has emphasized further measures to reduce circular debt and losses of power distribution companies (DISCOs), as well as completing steps related to their privatization.

Discussions on additional measures will be finalized during policy-level negotiations. Concrete proposals relating to economic reforms, FBR revenue collection and other program commitments will also form part of the talks.

Following the successful completion of negotiations, the IMF mission is expected to issue a statement on the outcome of the overall review. The release of the fifth tranche under the loan program will remain subject to approval by the IMF Executive Board.
