Pakistan and Maldives Agree to Boost Tourism, Health and Education Sectors
Pakistan and the Maldives have agreed to expand cooperation in tourism, healthcare, and education as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and create new opportunities for their citizens.
During Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s three-day state visit to Pakistan, the two countries signed 20 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) covering several sectors, including health, education, tourism, agriculture, fisheries, information technology, youth development, and defense.
President Muizzu said the agreements would open new avenues for cooperation and help make bilateral relations more dynamic and beneficial for the people of both countries.
In healthcare, the two sides discussed expanding opportunities for Maldivian students and medical professionals. These include increasing MBBS placements under Pakistan’s Technical Assistance Program and exploring internship opportunities in Pakistan for Maldivian medical graduates.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted Pakistan’s contribution to healthcare in the Maldives. He said around 250 Pakistani doctors, alongside Pakistani paramedics, were serving in the country and added that Pakistan was ready to provide additional professionals to meet its healthcare needs.
Education also featured prominently in the discussions. Pakistan has long offered scholarships, training opportunities, and placements to Maldivian students, athletes, coaches, and young professionals. The two countries agreed to expand youth exchanges and cooperation in skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership.
